Fatally Flawed Experiments In Austrailian Euthanasia Assisted Suicide Laws

Beginning with the first, short-lived experiment with a law permitting euthanasia, which was conducted in the Northern Territory from July 1996 to March 1997, there are thirty jurisdictions which have (or had) a scheme permitting either euthanasia or assisted suicide or both.

For other jurisdictions considering whether to legalize assisted suicide or euthanasia these jurisdictions can usefully be seen as a series of experiments in attempting to create the much vaunted “safe” regime for assisted suicide or euthanasia.

The data from each of these laboratory experiments in ending human lives is patchy. Many of the regimes, despite claims of their “safety”, seem to have been deliberately designed to minimize the collection and publication of data to make it impossible ever to know how often things go wrong.

Nonetheless scrutiny of all the data that is available from these experiments leads to the conclusion that
they are all – in various ways – fatally flawed.

Instead of Civil War, a Naked Mole Rat Colony Changed Queens Peacefully

When the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego got their first naked mole rat colony in 2019, the researchers named them the "amigos" — Spanish for "friends."

Naked mole rats are subterranean mammals native to East Africa. Since the 1960s, scientists have studied captive colonies in labs and zoos for their unusual living arrangements and their long, healthy lives.

The Salk colony's name was prescient. A few years later, they exhibited a peaceful transition that bucks the conventional wisdom on how naked mole rat colonies change queens — which is usually through all-out warfare.

"Maybe they heard us and they were like, okay, we'll show you that we're friends," says Shanes Abeywardena, a veterinarian and postdoctoral fellow in scientist Janelle Ayres' lab. Abeywardena and her colleagues documented the nonviolent changing of the queens for the April 15 issue of the journal Science Advances.

Tucker Carlson’s recent claim that “Muslims love Jesus” is worse than might appear. The problem is not that Muslims don’t really love Jesus; it’s that they love a counterfeit Jesus—one who promotes hate for and war on Christians.

Let’s carefully unpack this troubling claim.

On April 14, Tucker Carlson asserted:

The people in charge don’t want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus. Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist.

This is a perfect example of how a set of words can be true—literally speaking, what Tucker wrote is true—but can also mean antithetical things to antithetical audiences, in this case, Muslims and Christians.

Put differently, the “Jesus” Muslims love (known in Arabic as ‘Isa) behaves more like a faithful Muslim and sometime jihadist, not the Son of God proclaimed by the New Testament—which Muslims believe is fake news (or, in the Koran’s words, “distorted” and “corrupted,” from h-r-f, ح ر ف).

Alberta Seeks to Set Limits on "Medically Assisted Dying"

Alberta has proposed a bill that would limit the use of medically assisted dying - also known as voluntary euthanasia - in the Canadian province solely to end-of-life circumstances.

In 2021, Canada expanded access to medically assisted dying, known domestically by the acronym Maid, to people with serious, incurable illnesses or disabilities, even if their death is not reasonably foreseeable.

Canada is also due to expand access next year to people whose only medical condition is mental illness, though that has twice been delayed.

Alberta is the first jurisdiction in Canada to independently propose limits to the practice.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, said during a news conference on Wednesday that Maid should only be an option for those with no hope of recovery.

“Human stories,” J.R.R. Tolkien observed, “are practically always about one thing, aren’t they? Death.”

Tolkien was right. The greatest stories of the ages center on death—how people face it, or how they respond to loss.

In “Braveheart,“ William Wallace takes up Scotland’s cause after his wife is killed by an English soldier. In ”The Return of the King,“ Eowyn risks her life to slay the Witch-king after her uncle Theoden falls. In ”Wonder Woman,” Steve Trevor sacrifices himself to save others, flying away with a payload of poison gas.

The lesson of these stories is clear: When humans stop fearing death, they are capable of extraordinary things. Yet fear of death is common—nearly half of Americans report fearing death.

Many consider this natural, but Socrates disagreed. He called fear of death “the pretence of wisdom,” observing that “no one knows whether death, which they in their fear apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest good.”

Socrates understood the same lesson of our stories: When we no longer fear the grave, we can live our full life. He was not the only teacher to grasp this truth.

Last week the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the subject of birthright citizenship. Even President Trump sat in the chamber for a portion. I do find it quite perplexing that individuals who willfully violate our laws, disrespecting our national sovereignty, are rewarded by having their progeny become citizens of the very country their parents illegally entered. 

From that perspective, one would believe that this would not be a policy a Nation should pursue, understanding the floodgates that would open. And of course, there are those who are intentionally exploiting this quite insidious policy, namely China. The long-term consequences of birthright citizenship could establish a potential wave of “sleeper” citizens to whom allegiance is not truly to this Constitutional Republic. The common American would look at this issue of birthright citizenship and ask, what is the issue? Why are those who illegally enter our country allowed to have the privilege of American citizenship bestowed upon their children?

And as an American Black man, that question truly resonates with me. I know I am not alone.

I find it quite hypocritical and laughable that the Marxist leftists of today are arguing in support of something they did not support when it was first introduced: the 14th Amendment. Matter of fact, the party of the jackass, aka the Democrat party, did not support the 13th, 14th, or 15th amendments when they were introduced. These were the amendments that ended slavery in these United States, a goal for which the Republican Party was established, granted citizenship to the freed slaves, and their children, and prohibited federal and state governments from denying a citizen (see 14th Amendment) the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude (slavery, see 13th Amendment).
